Review
I should be busy reviewing my 711 article right now, but because of my laziness, i think it can wait.
I am still wondering why people whose being transferred from branch campuses to the main campus, complained that they could not perform well in the exams like what they did when they were in the branch campus. From what i heard, they were talking about how their lecturers could not deliver the subjects well, too stingy to give marks, how hard the subject is etc. everyone is to blame except themselves, forgetting that their four fingers are still pointing at themselves.
When i was doing my degree in statistics, part 3, algebra II paper. If you do not know, part 3 statistics was like super busy semester, we’ve got 7 subjects, maximum credit hour (i wonder, is this why industry said universities are producing walking-book-memorizer-robot a.ka. students). So, during the exam, to cover 7 papers was not an easy task, but alhamdulillah, everything went great for me, even i was expecting to score perfect marks this semester until the very end. Algebra II was the last paper, and i was kinda take things for granted, sat the paper, failed to deliver! When i say failed, it really means FAILED.
My hope flew away, perfect marks? neeaaaahhh, no more, now…’Do i need to repeat the paper?!’
After the paper, like typical other students, i started blaming everyone except for myself. everything went wrong because of the people around me, i’ve done my part very well, but the people around me are the reasons why i failed to answer the paper well. yaa, everyone is to blame.
But after a few days, i started thinking, it was not because of the difficult questions, change of format, the question paper was just a normal exam paper. there’s no such thing as difficult questions because for every questions asked, the answer are all in the syllibus, it’s just the matter of students know or not. Go and ask some students, do they know what and why they are learning their subjects. Don’t be surprised if they answer ‘because the dean’s said so’. True, maybe there are some questions that need students to think outside the box, but trust me, it won’t go too far from the box, the question-makers are just twisting the words here and there, but the meaning is just the same, the objective will remain the same, to provide students the understanding of the theories and formulas, absorb the concept, not just memorizing the formulas.
And if the lecturers are to blame, then ask yourself, do you study the way you should. The lecturers had done their part, that is to transfer the knowledge. But lecturers are just human. They have feelings, they also have constraint. If people said, you must have interest in whatever you do, same goes to the lecturers. From my observations, there are certain lecturers who do not know what kind of knowledge should they transfer to their students because they do not have interest in the subject itself. Mind you, they are lecturers, they still have superiors, know the word beurocracy? They are told/given what subjects should they teach. Given, you need to sit for a paper that you dislike, you wouldn’t have interest, take things for granted, sit the exam just to pass. you are human, so are the lecturers.
So, questions are not to blame, lecturers are just human, so put the blame on yourself. Everything and everyone around you have played their part, if not very well, we hope that they have tried their best. Put them aside, and look at yourself, have you done your part, and if you did, was it enough? the exam results is a slip that printed out your name on it, not the lecturer’s name, so, should they care? minus the lecturers factors, now it is between you and the difficult questions, the markers just want to see right answers, if what they get are blank papers, meaning you do not understand a thing about the subjects, should the exam markers care about it?
Lihat diri sendiri, di mana sebenarnya aku berdiri dan ke mana hala tuju selepas ini, tentukan keputusan sendiri kerana orang lain tidak akan peduli.
kiko: i wish the 711 article is easy to review…
